The NAACP's
Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics is a yearlong
achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic
and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. ACT-SO includes 26
categories of competition in the sciences, humanities, business, and performing
and visual arts.
Here is the scoop:
- This is a national competition, with 27 competition categories’ including the Sciences, Humanities, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and Business.
- Each students can compete in UP TO THREE AREAS
- Applications due January 10, 2014
- There is a Student Orientation for those accepted on January 25, 2014
- Past ACT-SO participants include actors Anthony Anderson and Jada Pinkett-Smith, film maker John Singleton, and recording artist Kanye West.
Who is eligible? Students who are of
African descent , US citizens, enrolled in grades 9-12, and amateurs in their
categories’ of competition.
